Consumers will probably feel the pinch when Green electricity starts large scale production.Eskom has announced plans to build 50 wind turbines with two megawatts each all over South Africa before the end of 2009.This is to supplement the companies electricity production, Eskom struggled and in some cases failed to meet the countries electricity demand in 2007 and 2008.
While this is certainly a step toward the global trend of Green energy ,wind turbines are a more costly way to produce electricity and the consumer always ultimately foots the bill. After last years mega price increases in July many consumers were shocked by how much they ended up paying for electricity each month.
Hopefully Eskom will keep that in mind when they start to introduce new products that are supposed to be beneficial to us.Some experts are predicting the price of electricity will triple in the decade ahead due to new Green production practices.I guess we have to start taking climate change seriously sometime, hopefully the increases are gradual though.
