Have you grown tired of looking at the same old garden gnomes you’ve had for the last twenty years? Does the prospect of exchanging them for ceramic frogs not appeal to you? Well here are some great ideas for those looking for some garden inspiration:
- Your garden is a space like any other in your home, why not install a shelf on an outdoor wall that you can display ornaments on. You could go to any nursery and find a lovely variety of undecorated pots and containers, paint them all one colour and leave them empty for a minimalist look. Or if your heart just breaks at the thought of disposing of your precious gnome collection display them for all to see on your new shelf.
- You don’t always have to use what you find in the nursery or garden supply store as a pot or planter. There are some great things available to you that with a little modification can become a unique and practical focal point. Consider using that old wheelbarrow you have at the back as a place to plant a small array of herbs. Just remember to add a couple of drainage holes.
- Purely for decorative purposes you could get a small collection of galvanized watering cans together all in different colours and artfully display them somewhere in your garden. You could try the same thing with those enamel coated mugs, plates and bowls. They are usually inexpensive and come in some great vibrant colours.
- If your budget allows try salvaging an old piece of furniture that will withstand the outdoor elements for a while. A unique chair or bench will always impress or you could take it one step further and create a fishpond in an old freestanding bathtub.
- A less permanent decoration that is equally eye-catching is fabric. When having an outdoor dinner party you could treat your guests to a Moroccan inspired evening with lovely flowing fabric drapes in some gorgeous colours.
Whatever you decide to do with your garden remember you do not have to follow the trends. If you really love your ceramic frogs or ducks then work with them. Maybe all your garden is missing is you sitting in it soaking up the sun.
