President Motlanthe supported by most.
After all the political drama of the last week many South Africans will feel better knowing that Pres.Motlanthe is supported by many people.
Business leaders, foreign and local, have expressed their confidence in South Africas new President. With Finance Minister Trevor Manuel’s resignation the financial market saw a flurry of activity that was generally negative but this was largely counteracted by the Ministers announcement that he would be willing to serve the new administration.
President Motlanthe has also announced that economic policies will remain unchanged and this is boosting investor confidence in South Africa’s financial future.
Many members of opposition parties have also expressed their confidence in Pres.Motlanthe, saying that he is the best man for the job.
President Kgalema Motlanthe was born in 1949 into a large family with a meagre income. He supported the ANC from a very young age and was detained for his political activities. He was incarcerated at John Voster Square for 11 months in 1976 for furthering the ANC’s cause and then in 1977 found guilty of three charges under the Terrorism Act and sent to Robben Island for ten years.
After his release in 1987 he was always involved in politics until his election as ANC Deputy President in December 2007.He is a family man and is married with children.
Some are saying he might be on our political radar even after next years presidential election as he is favoured by ANC President Jacob Zuma to fill the position of Deputy President of South Africa.
