Refresh your property with paving.

In an effort to improve the chances of selling your property in the current property market most people will consider doing some sort of renovation to refresh the property’s appearance. Paving is an option that is sometimes overlooked because it can be viewed as rather mundane, however if done correctly it can not only improve your homes appearance but also increase its value.

Here are some tips if you are considering doing some paving:

  • Start at the beginning. There are two sorts of paving, solid surface (i.e. bricks, cement/concrete, etc) and aggregate-surface (cobble stones, gravel, etc).Depending on where you want the paving you should decide which will work best for you, for example bricks rather gravel may be better for a driveway as they will require less maintenance.
  • All of these options, brick, gravel, cobble stones , etc, come in a wide variety of colours. The paver you select should be able to provide you with samples that you can take home and assess in the area you wish to pave. Select a colour that will compliment your home and the surrounding area if it borders on the garden.
  • There are also a wide selection of patterns to choose from, such as herringbone, basket weave, stretcher-bond and large paving stones. Your paver will assist you in deciding which option is most practical for the area you wish to pave, some patterns work best in driveways and others are better for outdoor entertainment areas.
  • When you go about choosing a paver make sure you check him out thoroughly. Is he a member of a reputable paving association (e.g. SA Brick Paving Institute), how many years is his work guaranteed for, check out other properties he has worked on (a reputable paver should have no problem providing references), how long will the job take and how and when will payment take place?

All of this information should make it easier for you to decide what you want done on the property and who you will choose to do the work. When installed and maintained correctly paving can last for years and add value to your property. It can also just be the final finishing touch you need on your outdoor entertainment area or poolside.

Most importantly be sure of the person you are employing to do the work. Nothing is worse than sitting with an unfinished job that you have already paid, so check them out as best you can.
